UN Revises HIV Estimates

Jaw-dropping resulted when the UN released much-reduced estimates of the HIV infections worldwide.

BBC News reported that in 2007, there are 33 million people infected worldwide with HIV, down from previous estimates of 40m.hiv-graph.gif

Revised figures for India account for much of the decrease, experts say.

But the rate of new cases and mortality levels are declining, although figures still show that there are 6,800 new cases each day and over 5,700 deaths

The UN is denying that it deliberately inflated the number of cases to increase funding, according to the The New York Times.
