The Global Health eLearning Center is pleased to offer this course on Antenatal Care (ANC). Learners who take this course will be oriented to key concepts in antenatal care including the importance of focused (goal-directed) ANC.

This course covers topics such as:

  • Global significance of ANC in light of the new model of focused ANC

  • Goals and principles of focused ANC

  • Elements of a focused assessment

  • Importance of screening for problems in focused ANC

as well as:

  • Components of individualized care provision, including the birth- and complication-readiness plan

  • Issues in the prevention and treatment of anemia during pregnancy

  • Signs and symptoms that may indicate major life-threatening complications during pregnancy
In addition, this course tackles issues of special consideration such as: prevention and treatment of malaria in pregnancy, care of the pregnant woman who is infected with HIV, and the care of the pregnant women who is infected with syphilis.
