It summarizes the core factors contributing to success in family planning programming, as identified by family planning professionals around the world.

This course covers topics such as:
- How supportive policies lay the groundwork for successful programs;
- How research, monitoring, and evaluation guide program design and implementation;
- How strong leadership helps strengthen programs and navigate change;
- Developing communication strategies that address clients' needs;
- Ensuring contraceptives are always available when clients need them;
- Finding creative ways to staff programs and improve performance;
- Meeting clients' needs and maintaining medical standards;
- Expanding access to services through a mix of service delivery points;
- Making services affordable to clients while ensuring financial sustainability; and
- Integrating services to increase efficiency and convenience.

"Elements of Family Planning Success" is a new knowledge-sharing initiative from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's Center for Communication Programs (CCP), with support from USAID. The initiative started under CCP's INFO Project, and continues under the follow-on Knowledge for Health (K4H) Project.
This activity takes a unique approach to help family planning programs succeed, by merging evidence-based information gathered worldwide with local program experiences.
The initiative constitutes a discussion and exchange of ideas through various modes of communication, including:
- A global online survey
- An online discussion forum on the Implementing Best Practices (IBP) Knowledge Gateway
- An interactive Web site with audio and video interviews with family planning experts around the world
- An issue of Population Reports
