Population Reports' Q&As

Men's Surveys: New Findings

Focus on Men

What topics are covered in men's surveys?

Surveys of men tend to cover the same topics covered in women's surveys. Questions address such key issues as contraceptive knowledge and use, family planning attitudes, fertility preferences, and sexual activity. Thus the surveys allow for comparisons between men and women, as well as comparisons among countries. Surveys of men, in contrast to the surveys of women, cannot be considered representative of the developing world as a whole, because fewer have been conducted and they focus on sub-Saharan Africa.
