Does your program provide hormonal contraceptive methods? Do providers find there is too much to remember about these methods?

Now you don’t have to remember it all! On just one page the new Key Reminders sheet provides those important but hard-to-remember details for providing hormonal methods.

How to use it: Providers can post this sheet on a table or wall, where they can check it quickly and easily at any time.

What it covers: The Key Reminders sheet covers five methods—combined oral contraceptives, monthly (combined) injectables, long-acting (progestin-only) injectables, implants, and progestin-only pills. Topics include:

·    When to start
·    Comparing effectiveness
·    Medical eligibility
·    Correcting mistakes

·    Managing common side effects.

The information comes from Family Planning: A Global Handbook for Providers. The contents reflect the latest WHO guidance. The sheet focuses on technical information that can be hard to remember. It does not cover everything that a provider needs to know to provide these methods; it is not a substitute for training; and it does not describe the counseling process.

How to print it yourself: The sheet is designed for printing on large-format paper, either 11-inch by 17-inch paper or A3 paper. You can print it yourself on paper of any size with similar proportions.

1. Open the .pdf file by clicking here.

2. From the File menu choose Print.

3. Choose the number of copies to print.

4. Make sure that the “Page Scaling” box says “Fit to Printable Area.”

5. Click on “OK.”

How to order printed copies: For printed copies in 11-inch by 17-inch size, please use the INFO order form, or send an e-mail message to orders@jhuccp.org. Printed copies are available free of change for use in developing countries.

What else you can do:

1. Translate this tool. If you do, please send us your file. We will post it here, where others can use it. You will receive credit online.
2. Let us know how and where you introduce this tool. Who is using it? How was it printed? Where was it distributed? Did providers receive training about using it?
3. Let us know what providers think. Is Key Reminders useful? How often do providers refer to the sheet? How can we improve it?
